He continues to be active with the Alabama Trial Lawyers Association serving on the Board of Governors from 1986-89, and the Executive Committee 1989-present. Rick has over 18 years of trial experience and has achieved an "AV" rating by Martindale Hubbell - the highest possible ranking for a practicing attorney. Rick practices in the area of automotive crashworthiness, products liability, medical malpractice, and personal injury. He began his career on the defense side, with the firm of Rives and Peterson. In 1986, realizing he was more aligned with the interests of injury victims, he joined the plaintiff's firm of Emond & Vines, where he began his real involvement in products liability and medical malpractice. In 1999, he formed the firm of Alvis & Willingham, LLP, with long-time friend Tom Willingham. Rick has had the opportunity to handle cases involving many different varieties of products. In the early nineties, he was intimately involved in tire litigation around the country. Due to his early networking with plaintiff's attorneys in other states, he had the opportunity to handle cases in various parts of the country, involving a multitude of products. In recent years, his practice has been limited to the areas of automotive crashworthiness and medical malpractice. The firm reviews more than 150 medical cases a year, and usually accepts less than 10% of those cases investigated. Rick is most proud of the cases he has been involved in which have made a difference to consumers across the country. Such cases include roll over protective systems on tractors, tire/rim mismatch cases, Type III door lock cases, SUV stability cases, and passive/active restraint systems in automobiles. He believes strongly in what he does, and in those clients he represents.
